Fix #2: Remove the batteries, then remove the memory card. If you hear this click, immediately stop and try the camera. That may get the camera to function properly. Many thanks, great advice.
I will keep on trying with these methods, and thank you very much for your quick response. This is probably not a lens error, because other things are wrong other than the lens. It was working one minute, we turned it off and set it down for about 10 minutes, turned it back on and got the error.I'm hoping the retailer where I purchased news for 2min.

Do you? grrrrr i hate a non fixed camera!!!!! But because Canon refuses to admit this is a problem and Canon will not fix it for free, this problem becomes a fatal one. Thus make sure you try them in the listed order.
