I shook or "tremored" my hand while the lens extended and it seemed to work. Ordinarily that would be acceptable, you would just send it back to Canon and get a new one. Remove the memory card and keep it removed, then install the new batteries. I am convinced that this camera can be saved (without mucho dollars) Has anyone ever taken one apart and more importantly, mended a camera such as this?

I mean, a loud zoom motor, or a 100 repair bill? I never had a mechanical problem with a Canon. I was holding it wrong and blocked the lens from extending. These cameras are mostly made of plastic, and it can even happen under regular use where nothing was done wrong.
Maybe also consider using a small vacuum cleaner around these openings to draw the sand out. Unfortunately, this usually costs more than the average camera is worth. Then camera shuts off. Reply to this post Permalink | Report abuse 0 of 2 people think this post adds to the discussion.
Do you know how much they charge to fix it cause they wont tell me without me paying £20 just to look at it. I was getting ready to ship it off to some repair center when i found this site. The one that seems to work is forcing the lens until it clicks. While powering up, i pulled the inner cylinder counter clockwise and felt a snap.
We knew that there wasn't much we could do to hurt the camera, since if our attempts failed, the camera was toast anyway. February 5, 2008 at 11:35 PM Ronit said... All fixed now after I followed your directions. Ensure lens mechanism is clear of dirt/sand/etc...
