Also, I do not recommend probing too deeply around the lens barrel with the paper (don't go more than a 1 cm or 1/2 in) . Thank you. Hope everyone here gets theirs going again.

I am now going to open the camera lens. I replaced the batteries, but that didn't fix it. but I pressed gently on each of the 4 sides. Works fine now!!!!

Sorry to hear about the sand. If the easy fixes didn't work, then the camera probably needs replacement of the entire lens assembly, which is no trivial task.
